![]() Mortal Kombat X also benefitted from the current delivery system of games, with worthwhile DLC characters and flourishes like new costumes releasing steadily post-launch. The new characters added to the roster, especially Cassie Cage and Erron Black, felt like fully fleshed out fighters who compelled you to switch up your main. The series’ over-the-top gameplay could finally be rendered in all of the intricate glory that it deserved.įeaturing the most creative and spine-crawling fatalities yet, Mortal Kombat X further proved that NetherRealm Studios was more than up for the task of carrying on the legacy of the iconic franchise. Mortal Kombat X took the franchise to superstardom. Mortal Kombat 11 has plenty of the gory fatalities fans are looking for, but it also introduces the new tactical “Fatal Blows.” These moves are used during matches once you run low on health and can help keep less-experienced players from losing a match before they have a chance to respond. Instead, it’s all about punishing mistakes and taking advantage of brief windows to deliver bursts of damage. Spacing plays a huge role in Mortal Kombat 11, which doesn’t rely as heavily on combo attacks as its predecessors. Plus the two released Kombat packs added even more story elements and guest characters to tear apart. Longtime fighters such as Sub-Zero and Kitana are joined by newcomers with creative and deceptive abilities, and the stages’ interactive elements force you to always know exactly where you’re standing. The most recent release, Mortal Kombat 11, is also the strongest entry in the entire franchise, packed to the gills with content including the famous Klassic Towers, Towers of Time, story mode, online multiplayer, and the exploration-based Krypt. True to Mortal Kombat’s jaw-dropping graphics, aggressive spirit, the commercial is big, raw and over the top. Soon everyone from office workers and new dads to chess-playing seniors are swept up in a spontaneous, frenzied crowd to witness the fight of all fights. What begins as a hushed whisper quickly takes over the city. We flew down to Mexico City and created an intense build-up where word spreads quickly about a fight. We scripted the campaign and hired one of the best production companies, MJZ, along with one of their top directors, Phil Joanou. Mortal Kombat was a brand known for being over the top so we needed to create a campaign in the MK way by making the largest fight circle of all time. What is that we love about a fight? If someone ran down the halls anywhere – from a junior high to a rest home and yelled FIGHT! wouldn’t everyone try to get a look? From kids to the elderly, it’s a universal truth – we cannot resist a good fight. Our task – broaden sales to reach gamers of all types. Mortal Kombat was a beloved 27-year-old brand with a ton of equity, but it remained a hardcore fighting brand with a very specific consumer following.
